Julie A. Souza

Chief Operating Officer, Wheelhouse Group

Julie Souza is the Chief Operating Officer of Wheelhouse Group, charged with creating strategic efficiencies for the business and its affiliates as well as overseeing day-to-day operations. As a member of the senior management team, she is involved in developing and evolving the company’s business model and strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining Wheelhouse Group, Julie served as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy for Second Spectrum, a sports technology start-up that serves as the official analytics and player-tracking partner of the NBA. In her role, Julie developed business models for consumer-facing businesses and negotiated partnerships with the NBA, NBA team ownership and national broadcast media companies.

Before Second Spectrum, Julie was VP of Strategy and Business Development for ESPN where she was charged with developing and executing ESPN’s business development strategy across all areas (television, digital, wireless, print, national, local, etc.). Julie negotiated relationships with third parties spanning product, editorial, technology, data, sales, production, social, international, programming, distribution and content, including ESPN’s first-ever global digital partnership, increasing revenue by 500% over term ($100MM+).

Prior to joining ESPN, Julie was Vice President of Business Development at Sports Illustrated Group. In addition to leading partnership and business development initiatives across digital and print platforms, she developed and executed the group’s television strategy, launching the Sports Illustrated show and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 50th Anniversary television special. While at Sports Illustrated, Julie served on the inaugural Time Warner Chairman’s Challenge committee, tasked with developing business opportunities to reach new markets, creating and presenting business plans to Time Warner senior leadership.

Julie started her career in media at CBS Sports Network in a variety of roles. Earlier in her career, she served as Director of Marketing and Business Development at American Express and in the consulting practices of various companies including Accenture, PeopleSoft, and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.

Julie received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a MBA from Harvard Business School. She currently lives in Rye, New York, with her husband and three children.
